Dominica

 

Dominica is an impoverished member of the Caribbean community. Basic medical infrastructure is lacking and there is only one ophthalmologist for the entire country. This doctor was trained at the University of Ottawa as there are no training facilities in the country.

Eyesight International (Canada) has been working with the University of Ottawa to improve the availability and quality of eye care services in Dominica. This support has recently resulted in the training of an ophthalmic technician. Plans are currently underway to expand this program.
